South Bay/North Bay

Anyone visiting Scarborough has to sample the delights of Scarborough’s two beaches the North Bay and the South Bay.

The South Bay situated closer to the Scarborough town centre, is what you would call the tourist side, plenty of amusements, a few roller coasters, masses of fish and chips and a beach perfect for lounging.

In the summer months it is extremely busy full of tourists trying to get a piece of seaside fun. A little tip would be to try the ice cream at the Harbour Bar it’s unbelievably tasty.

The North Bay is also one of the best Scarborough attractions; this bay offers tranquillity, sun bathing and a good excuse to get your holiday book out.

There are also a few attractions such as the Scarborough Sea Life Centre and a great bar, which serves great food called Blue Crush… well worth a visit.

Peasholm Park

Located minutes from the North Bay of Scarborough, Peasholm Park is a relaxing, tranquil park ideal for a leisurely stroll on an afternoon.

With an oriental theme the park has dragon pedaloes, a variety of wildlife including swans and squirrels, picturesque waterfall and a oriental pagoda overlooking the lake that centres the park.

The park is the perfect place to take a picnic and sit and take in the sheer beauty of the park and during the tourist season there is two cafes open which serve a selection of drinks and hot and cold food.

Truly a legendary Scarborough attraction Peasholm Park is a must visit for anyone travelling to the town.

Spa Theatre

The Spa Theatre was originally an actual Spa where people flocked believing the natural spring water emitted had a medicinal effect.

Discovered by Mrs Thomasin Farner in the 17th century it went on to become a top attraction in the town until the water was deemed undrinkable in the 1930’s.

These days the only drinks to found are in the bar as the Spa now seats 2,000 and hosts live entertainment all year round.

The theatre is a short walk from the South Bay and compromises a series of events over the summer including seasonal shows, it’s architecture is something to be marvelled at and if your looking for some fun and entertainment then the Spa will definitely have a show for you.

The castle started life as an Iron Age fort but since then has been occupied by The Romans and in its heyday was a home to a king Henry the 2nd.

Now it is a great tourist attraction, under the trust of English Heritage you can learn how it was fought over during the English Civil War and was bombarded during the First World War.

It’s certainly a great day out for the family with events running through the summer months, which are perfect for young families.

Scarborough Open Air Theatre

Built in the 1930’s by Scarborough Corporation during the seaside town’s golden years it was the pinnacle attraction for shows in the summer.

However in 1986 it closed and was left derelict for over 20 years until it was re vamped and opened by no other than The Queen in 2010.

Currently Europe’s largest Open Air Theatre it is home to both national and international acts including Elton John.
