Scarborough “Will Still Get New Water Park!”

27th Jan 2009

Talking to Scarborough Evening News, Benchmark managing director David Rhodes said: “We are putting together a revised masterplan with the council which will identify what the next phase is going to be. We are going through the process of considering what to include, and would hope to get new plans in over the next few months. A water park will still be in the masterplan and we already have architects working on designs and we are meeting with them regularly. We cannot say at this stage when the new plans will be completed as our priority at the moment is working on the Open Air Theatre.”

Despite the recession, Mr Rhodes remarked that The Sands remains a “very profitable” project and a new covered water park is still very much on the cards.

Although differing from the original plans released some time ago, Mr Rhodes’ announcement is great news for both residents and future visitors to Scarborough Hotels. The new park is expected to include a separate swimming pool, a fun pool with water chutes and slides and other leisure facilities such as steam rooms and a sauna.

Over the next few weeks shop fitters are due to begin work on The Sands new retail units which are scheduled to open in time for Easter. Outlets are expected to include a convenience store, a surfing themed bar and restaurant which will be across two floors, an ice cream parlour and a surf shop.

Work has already begun on restoring Scarborough’s old Open Air Theatre, despite delays caused by the global Credit Crunch, and this is scheduled to be ready for Summer 2010.
