Rotunda Museum Scoops Top Award

15th Jan 2009

Scarborough’s vandal-hit Rotunda Museum has won a top landscaping award.

The award comes shortly after yobs smashed up the large, engraved glass sign at the entrance to the £4.4m attraction, admired by many visitors to Scarborough hotels.

English Landscapes, who undertook the Rotunda work, scooped a British Association of Landscape Industries national award.

The landscaping included the demolition and excavation of the Rotunda Gardens which involved removal of walling, paving, seating areas and installation of new land and footpath drainage. The site was then remodelled and a new layout designed.

Shirley Collier, chief executive of Scarborough Museums Trust, told the Scarborough Evening News: “We are delighted that all the hard work and effort in recreating the Rotunda and surrounding area has achieved national recognition.”
