DEMAND FOR UK LEISURE BREAKS INCREASES AS SOARING PRICE OF FUEL HITS HOLIDAYS ABROAD

Will rocketing fuel prices mean more people holiday in the UK?

More and more people are choosing to holiday in the UK as rocketing fuel prices will bring an end to the era of cheap family holidays, experts warned yesterday.

In an article published in the Daily Express yesterday, experts are warning how airlines offering long and short haul holidays are pushing up prices to pay the escalating cost of fuel – possibly spelling the end for cheap holidays abroad.

British Airways yesterday announced new fuel surcharges and budget companies Ryanair and easyJet have both issued warnings of reduced profits with oil prices driven high around the world. From Monday Ryanair, Europe’s biggest budget airline, will also raise the cost of putting a bag in the hold from £12 to £16 and for using a check-in desk to £6 to £8 for return flights.

This latest news comes only days after English Rose Hotels published a report by online shopping and price comparison giant Kelkoo revealing an increase in requests for information about UK Breaks, with searches for information about foreign holiday deals down 12 per cent.

With beach holidays still the most popular destinations with British holidaymakers, the UK’s seaside resorts are sure to see a resurgence in the number of people looking for short breaks this Summer.
